ABOUT ME
I have worked in community settings, private facilities, and in the hospital emergency. I have worked with the young, the old and those in the middle; the acutely and chronically mentally ill, the grieving, the depressed, the traumatized and those just trying to navigate their way. Likewise, I have encountered those from one end of the educational and socio-economic spectrum to the other. Regardless of who has sat across from me, I have always endeavored to provide a safe respectful space where my clients can tell their stories and be heard without judgement or fear.
I earned both a Bachelor's of Science in English Education and a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Carolina University. I currently hold both a license as a Professional Counselor and Clinical Addiction Specialist within the state of North Carolina. Although I have specialized in addictions and trauma work, I have experience working with people with a variety of mental health concerns and struggles. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, so I do not favor one particular therapy or technique over another. My approach is holistic, and I often incorporate a variety of techniques and therapeutic approaches drawing from mindfulness practices, EMDR, hypnotherapy, emotional freedom technique, positive psychotherapy, brainspotting, and acceptance and commitment therapy. I believe that the key to “success” in therapy weighs heavily on the relationship forged between the client and the therapist. I will never force you to do something you do not want to or insist that you reveal anything before you are ready. Therapy can be challenging at times but ultimately rewarding, and that is the nature of healing.
Just like you, I have my own story to tell. There have been twist and turns, sidetracks and stalls; there have been incredible joy and then deep dark despair. Times of great achievement and times of just surviving, but my story is not yet over and neither is yours.
